Sam & Max

When Nehemiah and I got married and moved into our house, we kind of inherited a herd of goats and a sweet dog named Sam. (The goats and Sam both belonged to Nehemiah's parents but since they lived at our house, they felt like ours.)
Sam was such a stand-offish dog until he started to trust you... then he would come up to you and want you to pet him. I'm pretty sure he would have went to war for us or any of the goats. He was such a sweet heart!

A few months after we were married, one of our sweet friends (Mrs. Connie) told us about a man who had Great Pyrenees puppies and he was giving them away! Come to find out, his dogs had too many puppies and he couldn't sale all of them and he was about to put the last two puppies to sleep! We quickly decided that we would love a puppy so we adopted him and his brother! We only kept one and gave the other puppy to one of Nehemiah's friends who also has goats.  (Great Pyrenees' dogs are bred to protect/herd sheep and goats.)

We fell in LOVE with our sweet puppy and we named him Max. He was THE laziest puppy and the cutest little fur ball!!!! I am NOT a dog person (at all) but I fell in love with Max... since he lived outside and didn't have to be in my house at all!! But I totally gave him a bath a time or two and let him lay in our laps at night while we watched tv. He was precious!! Then he got a little bigger and destroyed TWO screen doors... back to back. haha He was the goofiest dog we have ever seen! He always had to be touching someone! He would wrap his paws around your foot and hug you, literally! He could be annoying at times, but to say we loved him, is an understatement.

I LOVED driving up to our house and seeing Sam & Max in the  yard and watching how excited they were that we were home!! My favorite memory of them was how they always went for walks with me! Even before I had Ella, they would walk with me. Max would go ahead of me and Sam would lag behind. I loved it!

Ella and Max had such a sweet relationship, as well. Max was the most patient dog with her! She would literally climb on him when she could only crawl! He would just lay on the porch and let her go to town! He got so many hugs and kisses from her!! I was never nervous when they played together! He was the sweetest dog!

Nehemiah and Max were so close! Nehemiah would wrestle and play with him as soon as he got home every day! No matter if he wanted too or not, Max insisted that they play!! Seriously, those two loved each other SO much! It was so sweet to see them together!

While we were in Tennessee Sam went missing and five days after we got home, Max went missing as well. We are seriously heartbroken and just don't understand. We have no idea what actually happened to either of them, and I guess we won't ever know what actually happened to them. :( It is the saddest thing to have a glimmer of hope that they will be bouncing up and down, playing in the yard, when we drive up to our house, but instead find an empty yard. :( I didn't realize how special our relationships were. Even I miss them so much. But I know Nehemiah misses them even more. I am; however, thankful that Ella isn't old enough to realize that they are gone, because it would be heartbreaking to see her looking for them every day!

Sam and Oretta when she was just a baby! He treated her like she was his puppy!

So sweet! They were SO close!

Always wanted to be petted!

How could you not love that face? I remember this day! I came home from work and walked around with Sam in the goat field. He just wanted to be with me.

Our sweet Max when he was a teeny, tiny, puppy!

We always called him a baby polar bear!

I had been at Emilie's baby shower all weekend and these two were so excited to see me when I got home!

I mean, he was the cutest puppy!

He got into something!

When we got home one afternoon, Max & Oretta both needed some attention!

Sleeping on the porch and moving everything around. lol

The day I ran over him. :( He was sleeping under my car and I didn't have a clue! And he was obviously too lazy to move, even after I cranked it!

This was a daily occurrence! They were always together and had to be touching! Sam was probably trying to calm Max down because he was always so hyper!

The beginning of their sweet relationship!

Her two favorite boys. Daddy & Max!

Just playing!

Easter 2013!

Easter 2014!

She was telling Max a good story!

One of my favorite picture's ever!

His smile!!

The last picture I took of Max & Ella! So sweet!

Now that we are pretty sure that Sam & Max are gone forever, we decided to get a new puppy! We knew Ella would love it... and we were right!

Welcome to the family, Daisy!! I promise you will always be hugged and kissed!
