Last night Mr. John, Mrs. Becky, Janet, Brian, Nehemiah, and I went to Natchitoches to see the Christmas lights and enjoy some family time together. The lights were beautiful, the fake snow was magical, the hot chocolate was rich and creamy, the music was festive the people were cheerful, Santa was jolly, and the fireworks were breathtaking.
I have been to Natchitoches to see the Christmas lights before, but this time was completely different. Maybe it's because I was with my husband and everything seems a little more special with him. But also, I really do think overall it was different.
We parked our car and made it down to the lights and went straight to Kaffie-Frederick General Mercantile Store. So Fun! I think Nehemiah & I could have stayed in there for a LONG time!! Cast iron, grilling tools, Le Creuset, goat milk soap, baking tins, cookie cutters, and SO much more. It is definitely a MUST if you are going to Natchitoches!
Then we started trying to find a restuarant to eat at. EVERYWHERE was at least an hour to two hour wait. So we ended up paying $5 to go down to the river to be closer to the lights, vendors, and fireworks. We grabbed some meat pies, crawfish pies, & fried alligator. Mr. John found a pier for us all to sit on, so we were over the water and it was gorgeous.
We still had about an hour before the fireworks would start, so Janet, Brian, Nehemiah, & I headed back up to the shops and walked around for a little while... and who do we run into but my mom and her friend Jeff! I knew they would be there, but I thought we would have to meet up, not run in to them! Not once... but twice!! haha
We went to a beautiful antique shop and then over to the fun & delicious kitchen shop!! Check out this website for more information for both! The kitchen shop had free samples of hot chocolate, coffee, & chai tea! The hot chocolate was the BEST I've ever had!!! So frothy!
They also had a few little samples of dips!!! We all hit those up!!! haha A couple times!
Then we went over to a Canebreak Coffee Shop & Bakery... they were out of cupcakes. Sad times! Oh well, I really didn't need one.
After that we headed back down to our cozy little pier and sat with Mr. John & Mrs. Becky to watch the gorgeous fireworks show! Like I said, I've been to see the lights & fireworks before at Natchitoches... I remembered the fireworks being anything but impressive. But this year, the fireworks were amazing. There was such a great variety! Nehemiah's favorite part was when the fireworks rained down from the bridge! It was so pretty! Like a curtain of fireworks!
When the fireworks show was over, the whole crowd clapped! Such a great moment of oneness! It was beautiful to see such unity after the events in Connecticut earlier this week. It definitely got me in to the Christmas spirit! (Although, I've been in the Christmas spirit A LOT this year!!!!) I.LOVE.CHRISTMAS.
After the fireworks we headed back to the car and Brian told us that he had called Mariners, a classic Natchitoches restaurant located on Sibley Lake, and got us on the waiting list! So when we got to Mariners we walked right in and were able to be seated! The food was DELICIOUS. We enjoyed our time together and really got to catch up!! Brian kept saying that our food was coming and kept making me & Nehemiah look... it wasn't. haha... I kept falling for it!!
(By the way, I've ALWAYS wanted to eat at Mariners ever since I heard the story that my family ate there after Aunt Becky's graduation at Northwestern!! I finally got to and I can't wait to go again!!!)
Overall, we had a wonderful time in Natchitoches !!! Definitely a new tradition!! We had a great time!!! Thanks Janet for having the idea of going!!! Thanks Mr. John & Mrs. Becky for dinner! We had a blast!! We love y'all!!!
The trip was a perfect First Christmas memory for Nehemiah & I!
