Honeymoon & our Mexican Hospital Adventure!
I have been planning on starting a blog after we got married, and now that we are back from our honeymoon I wanted to go ahead and start it up! I didn't think I would have a lot of stories to share... but little did I know, I was totally wrong.
I think this blog will be the perfect place to share our stories of our everyday life & keep our family updated! I hope you enjoy it!
We've had so many people text/call/Facebook us since we've been back so I wanted a place to share our story for everyone to see. I will definitely go back and blog about our wedding and all of the festivities, but this story definitely takes priority.
So we flew out of Lake Charles, LA at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning. We got to Cancun around 3 and started enjoying our resort right away! It was so nice and the beach was GORGEOUS. We ate at a Japanese restaurant (at the resort) and right away we noticed the food wasn't that great... haha. Our only complaint from the resort was the food. haha.. more on that later.
On Monday, we got up and went to the beach, laid out and soaked up the sun! Went over to one of the pools and laid out for a while. We just relaxed all day. It was so nice! We ate at a Mexican restaurant (at the resort) that night and it was the best meal we ate all week... but it was nothing to brag about.
On Tuesday, we booked a couples massage for that afternoon and with that purchase we were able to use the spa for the entire day. So we spent the day in the heated pool, hot tub, sauna, & steam room. Then at 3:00 we had our massage. It was amazing. Again, another day of pure relaxation. That night we ate at one of the buffet's at the resort. Nehemiah tried some fish eggs & some boiled shrimp. I didn't try either of these.... this detail is going to be VERY important in just a few seconds.
At about 4 a.m. Wednesday morning, Nehemiah woke up throwing up (at both ends, as he would say... I will spare y'all the details... if he were blogging y'all wouldn't be so lucky... haha)
He threw up all morning and at about 7 a.m. I went down to the lobby to get him some powerade and crackers. When I came back we sat on the balcony for a little while and he threw up one more time... and that's when I realized that he was very sick. We were both crying... it was pretty scary! Nehemiah said if he threw up one more time he thought we would die... scary thing to hear!!!
I remembered seeing the doctor's office the day before so I started calling the front desk to get more information about the doctor and I found out he wouldn't be in until 8:30 a.m. So from then until 8:30... it was a LONG waiting game. Nehemiah was still extremely sick. I called the doctor at about 8:25 and he answered...PRAISE THE LORD. He came to our room and said we needed to go to a hospital. He was running fever and very weak. He gave Nehemiah a shot to help with his nausea. Then he called us a cab and the hospital that he suggested we go to. Thank the Lord for helpful people, all over this earth.
When we got to the hospital Nehemiah was in a lot of pain and EXTREMELY dehydrated. He threw up one more time and then he lost consciousness for a few seconds. The nurses put in an IV and started giving him fluids... and INSTANTLY he started feeling better. He went from crying & not talking to joking around INSTANTLY. Thank you Jesus. They also took some blood so they could run some tests.
I met a girl who was in the room right across from Nehemiah's and she had food poisoning too. Her & her husband were on their honeymoon and were married on Saturday too! She ate shrimp the night before as well.. but at a different resort!! Crazy!!
We stayed at the hospital all day... the doctor came back in around 6:30ish and said that although he would have liked Nehemiah to spend the night, he went ahead and released us so that we could make our flight home at 7 a.m. the next morning. We were worried about this ALL day long. We had a great time earlier in the week... but all day Wednesday we just wanted to be in AMERICA and go HOME.
We got back to our resort around 8 p.m. and were in bed asleep by 9 p.m. We had to be up at 3 a.m. to make our flight. We (mostly Me) ate at Bubba Gump's in the Cancun Airport at 5 a.m. yesterday morning. We were at the airport about 2.5 hours early... haha
Our flights went great and we were so glad to be in Houston!!! And even more excited to be in LOUISIANA yesterday afternoon!!!!!!!
All in all we had a great trip (except for Wednesday) but we both agree that we are no where near ready to even think about leaving the country again. In fact, it sounds like torture. haha
I'm ready for a Florida or Orange Beach trip this summer! That sounds like heaven... the beach... in America!!!!!!!
Thanks for all of the prayers for our safe travels and for everyone who prayed for us all day Wednesday when Nehemiah was in the hospital.
I didn't think this is what my first blog post would be about... haha... but I'm so thankful that he is ok and we are home!
Our list of things that we are thankful for, for our first Thanksgiving: each other, family, America, and HOME.
Love,

In the emergency room, right after they started his IV! |
In his hospital room! |
Around 11 a.m. they went ahead and admitted us to the hospital. This hospital was amazing! It was a privately owned hospital and the doctor's spoke English pretty well. The nurses struggled a bit more... but somehow we managed to communicate.
Ready for real clothes! |
He said he felt like Patch Adams! haha |
